The Sheridan Community Club is now starting preparations for the 2010 4th of July Celebration. They are in need of your help in making this year a success. Join them on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 6:30 PM at the American Legion. The first meeting will be April 11th, 2010.
Everything the Community Club does for the 4th of July Celebration is run by individuals such as yourself. They are looking for people to come up with ideas and then make them happen. As an example, last year someone came up with the idea of a pet parade - they put in their time and made it happen. How much time did that take? As much time as they wanted to put into it. The same goes for you! This year, someone had an idea for a Lego Building competition. Is this something you are willing to do? Then come out and let them know. The Community Club is what the community makes it! The Sheridan Community Club has been putting on the July 4th celebrations for many years and are always looking for new ideas.
Here is a list of other activities the Community Club is involved with:
The Community Club is currently looking for people to help collect donations for next year’s Fireworks.
To volunteer or for more information, contact Tom Wehner at tom.wehner@yahoo.com or by phone (815) 405-0246.
Beginning in March, 2010, residents will begin receiving their United States Census questionnaire either by mail or hand delivery. When you receive this questionnaire, please fill it out and mail it back. The deadline is April 1, 2010.
We can’t move forward until you mail it back!
The Sheridan United Methodist Church hosts monthly suppers on the second Monday of every month (unless otherwise noted) from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. These suppers are open to everybody and a free will offering is the only charge. All dinners include coffee, water, lemonade and dessert. For any additional information, please call Jean at 815/496-9016.
The Sheridan Community Club is looking for volunteers to help with the 4th of July. Sheridan has been putting on the 4th of July for more than 75 years. We need your help to continue in putting on this event. Each year there are less people willing to help out. If we don’t get help in putting on this event there will be no more Fireworks in Sheridan after this year. We are looking for people to collect donation at the entrances in to town. We are also looking for local clubs that want to raise money for their club by hosting an event, such as the ducks, tractor pedal pull and pet parade, just to name a few. If your club wants to participate make sure to attend the next Community Club meeting on the 2nd of May at 6:30pm at the American Legion. We need to coordinate the day’s events. Let’s continue this tradition for years to come. Thank you.
To volunteer contact Tom Wehner at 815 405 0246

For many years, the empty lot located behind Village Hall housed a small memorial stone dedicated to veterans and it was always the Board’s intention to expand on this memorial. However, more pressing issues and lack of funds had not made that dream a possibility. Several years ago, the Sheridan Village Board began plans to build and dedicate a Veteran’s Memorial Park and a Veterans Memorial Park Committee was formed. This committee was developed to find funds to create a park solely dedicated to veterans.
After many successful fundraisers, Veteran’s Memorial Park has begun to finally take shape - with the landscaped brick walkways, the installation of flag poles displaying all the armed services flags along with the United States Flag proudly waving in the center. The dream is finally a reality. Phase I and Phase II of the project are complete however Phase III has been on hold until more funds can be raised. With today’s economy, donations have been scarce as well as raffle proceeds. However, efforts will continue as possible to complete construction on Veterans Memorial Park. Please note, Veterans Memorial Park has been funded through donations and fund raiser dollars only – no tax dollars have been used or will be used.
Please support our efforts to construct a place where our veterans will always be remembered. Thousands of dollars are still needed for completion.
